Enter the exotic world of Adventureland, home of tiki huts, world famous cruises through the jungle, a treehouse and a daring adventure through ancient tombs. Home of the famous Dole Whip treat, you are sure to have a wild time in this land!
Tarzan's Treehouse
Accessibility: Not Accessible
Okay, let’s be honest, this attraction is a glorified staircase. But it’s a charming staircase with an amazing view. You go across bridges and encounter scenes from the movie, with things to read and touch especially down at the basecamp! See if you can find this adorable “easter egg”!
Note: There is a section of the attraction with loud animal noises that could potentially scare some children or individuals. I recommend checking out the video below if that may be a concern.
Tip: Make sure to wipe hands or use hand sanitizer after going through this attraction. Lots of people touch those railings everyday!
The Jungle Cruise
Accessibility: Must transfer from ECV. Wheelchair Accessible boat is available.
Note: The standard queue is not accessible. You will go up to a cast member at a podium and they will give you a return time for you to ride the attraction. They will do this wether you have the DAS Pass or not. It will be put on your ticket and can be accessed from The Disneyland App, or by the cast member scanning your ticket.
One of my personal favorite attractions, The World Famous Jungle Cruise, is an boat ride where your Skipper will guide you through the jungles of the world, with hilariously punny (yes PUNny) commentary. You will see all kinds of animals, the local tribe and of course The 8th Wonder of the World. But I won’t spoil that last one for you. You will just have to ride the attraction and find out for yourself.
Tip: If you or someone in your party has back issues, request to sit on the side of the boat, because the center seating has no back support at all while the sides have a little bit. I also highly recommend requesting to sit at the front of the boat, even if you have to wait a little longer, it’s worth it for a better view.
Important Note: If there is someone with sensory issues or sensitive hearing, you must know that there is a part of the ride where your skipper will shoot a fake gun in the air and it is very loud. As someone with both Autism and very sensitive hearing, it can be quite bothersome for a minute or so. So take that into consideration if you think it will negatively affect someone in your group.
Indiana Jones Adventure
Disclaimer: Okay, let me get this out of way before we get too far into this. In my personal opinion and experience Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye is not a good ride for people with disabilities. The boarding process is long and confusing, the ride is very bumpy and really tosses you around, and can be very scary for some people. Unless you have a big Indiana Jones and/or Harrison Ford fan in your group I would recommend skipping this attraction. Alright, with that out of the way, let’s get into the next part.
Accessibility: Must transfer from ECV/Wheelchair. If needed, the attraction will provide a wheelchair for use to and from the ride.
Oh boy my friends, the process of getting onto this attraction is a long one. First, you must enter the outside queue, then you will enter inside the temple. Fun fact, the queue for Indiana Jones Adventure is about 1/2 a mile long. Once inside the temple it is very dark and you will go through a lot of twists and turns. You will eventually get crowded into the screening room, which is the preshow safety protocol instructing how to wear your seatbelt, and some backstory of the ride. You will reach a cast member who will direct you to the accessible section of the queue, which is a door to the exit of the ride.
This is where the real accessibility part comes in. First, you will leave your ECV or Wheelchair near the exit of the attraction, (which personally makes me a bit nervous). Wheelchairs for transferring onto the ride are available as well. Next you will be pointed down a long hallway to an elevator, you will ride the elevator up, go down another long hallway, and ride another elevator down. This is done to get you up and over the track of the ride. In the normal queue this is done via staircase. Eventually after quite a bit of walking and elevator rides, you will reach the boarding area for the attraction. You will be placed into groups of 4 and told where to stand, then you finally board the attraction.
Step inside a jeep and enter into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. But you MUST NOT look into eyes of idol. But oh no! You did! You have angered the idol and must go on a treacherous journey to escape from the temple, with a little help from your friend Indiana Jones.
Note: This attraction is extremely bumpy and will toss you around a lot. I highly recommend that you or whoever in your party is disabled to sit in the middle 2 seats of the ride vehicle. I have noticed you are thrown about a lot less in these seats. Also, I feel much less scared when on the attraction sitting in the inside seats, without the fear I will fall out.
The Enchanted Tiki Room
Accessibility: You may stay in your wheelchair or ECV
I’m going be honest here. I have never personally experienced the Enchanted Tiki Room. And I don’t intend to.
Allow me to explain, I used to be a Synchronized Swimmer. One year I did a Disneyland themed routine. Living the dream right? Not exactly. There was a clip of the music that was the Tiki Room. It drove me crazy from day one. And I vowed then to never put myself through having to sit through the entire show. Hearing the song actually gives me anxiety. My personal feelings and trauma aside, let’s get into it. Jośe! Wake up! It’s showtime!
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room is an audio animatronic show featuring the musical stylings of a cast that includes singing and dancing birds, flowers, tiki drummers and tiki totem poles that perform songs such as “The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room” which you may be familiar with. But then…oh no! You’ve angered the Gods of the Enchanted Tiki Room! Everyone must sing together to appease them! Before ending with “Let’s All Sing Like The Birdies Sing” and everything is happy again.
I will admit, if you need a break from walking around the parks all day and want to sit down and enjoy some air conditioning and perhaps a Dole Whip, this is a great spot to spend 15 minutes.
Note: There is a simulated storm that is pretty intense, especially for those with sensory sensitivities. I personally would rate it about a 3/5 so just keep that in mind, if that may affect someone in your group.
There you have it, folks. Your grand tour of all the attractions of Adventureland. I personally love cutting through Adventureland as a shortcut to New Orleans square. You just go all the way through the land and past Tarzan’s Treehouse and enter right by the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. I love the tropical feeling of the land, and the feeling of being somewhere near a jungle. What is your favorite attraction in Adventureland? Are you also adverse to the Enchanted Tiki Room? Let me know in the comments!
